Chivu was sweet. He was a happy, floppy, completely unthreatening personage, placid and good-natured. He was like a sheepdog who occasionally woke up for just long enough to get the sheep through that pesky gate thing.
Max was also sweet. He was an earnest, cheerful, not overly bright creature whose hard work did not always necessarily translate into results... but a very cute one, so that was all right. Actually he would have been quite attractive had his scatter-brained innocence not made any such concept unthinkable.
Nobody guessed that the conversations they occasionally had in Dutch weren’t quite so innocuous.
