Even now, on the downward slope of his career, he’s special.
He still sees everything; still has the ability to transform the game with his touch. Slouching through the midfield with a willful slowness, he explodes into life only periodically. But when the explosion comes, he’s transformed: A child appears in his place, legs alive with energy, eyes bright with joy, heart bursting with an absurd, precious love for the game.
You, too, are past your best days, but watching him, you remember what it was like to feel that blazing, simple passion. And you wonder where yours has gone.
