Going through the usual routines helped. He'd had these conversations -- made these movements -- thousands upon thousands of times. Pre-match greetings, massages for weary legs, the affectionate teasing that was no longer even conscious. All of it made this feel like just another day, at least on the surface. And that was enough; that veneer of normalcy would get him through.
Until he put on his boots. Looking down, watching his hands do the deceptively intricate work of tying the laces for the last time, it took every bit of self-control he had not to cry like a baby.

Lunging to turn off the blaring alarm, Eder found himself sprawled across Hugo's back, his face in the Frenchman's neck. "Don't wanna go," he whined, sinking into the warm body beneath him. Hugo's response was muffled by sleep and pillows so Eder chose to ignore it, focusing instead on the bare skin against his lips. Not yet fully awake, Hugo stretched like a cat and rolled over to face him. Opening his eyes, all he saw was Eder, and his face lit up like a child's.
Later, Eder would tell Hugo that was the moment he realized they would be ok.

Fully clothed, hands in his pockets, Matteo couldn't drag himself away from the dance the unknowing Sebastien was doing with his blanket partner. And just one more kick ... one more kick would make the view very nice indeed. He leaned against the wall and waited.
