And there were the children. Tiny when they came into Freddie's life, the sight of them now proved the years had passed. The baby was walking now. Lasse was old enough to roll his eyes and talk back. Mats was reading, picture books scattered around Jens' house.
Freddie had always pictured children of his own. A little girl or boy, running around the yard with a football the size of its blond head. Just like he used to be. He wasn't sure that would ever happen. At least there were Jens' children to spoil now, while Jens looked fondly on.

Away games without Phil didn't feel right. If Phil wasn't coming Cesc was always loathe to leave. The rooms echoed oddly. Cesc missed the turning of the pages, Phil's soft wry conversation and the way he always made Cesc go to sleep. He was the responsible one. Sometimes Cesc worried that he relied on that too much, that he always knew there would be a fallback, Phil ready to smooth over the cracks, calm him down, talk the pain and anger away. He shouldn't need a crutch. But every time he dreaded walking out the door without Phil beside him.
