The first time he had stayed the night at Alessio's place, he had lied about where he had been. Not because he had been ashamed, but just because he wanted to keep this to himself. At least for a while.
A little while ago, when someone asked him directly about the tell-tale bruises on his hips, he had lied again. Suddenly afraid that someone would find out, and even more afraid of what would happen to him if someone found it.
Raffaele hated lies and hated lying. Sadly, it had become a necessary part of his life.

There it was again.
That wide, contagious smile that seemed to brighten up everything around you. Except perhaps my gloomy sort of mood when I reminded myself that this wasn't just meant for me. You were always like that, always smiling, always friendly to everyone. Sometimes, when you weren't really there, I could still picture that smile clearly. Then, it didn't seem to difficult to tell you just how much you actually meant to me.
But now, when you were actually there? I kept silent because I was too afraid that you'd scold me. Too afraid of rejection.
For good.
