This is the first time he’s ever played football without anger; not trying to prove someone wrong. He doesn’t know why, but playing for Inter makes him feel like a kid again. (Winning helps, but he doesn’t think that’s it. His wife thinks he’s just growing up. He doesn’t think that even makes sense.)
Every touch of the ball sends a little thrill through him; he feels energy, potential coursing through him just making a run. And when it doesn’t come off, there’s no regret, no disappointment, he just turns and hurries back, a smile tugging at his lips.
