The first goal comes as a shock, and you cross your fingers, hoping the team will wake up. The midfield, for one, is really underperforming.
The second goal slips in and you wonder where the defense was.
The third goal cannons in and you can no longer bear to watch. Nicola touches your hand gently, and both of you sit with set faces, waiting for the torture to stop.
The final whistle blows.
The team’s dejected look says it all. You clench your fists, frustrated that you couldn’t do anything to help the team, couldn’t help him defend the goal.

He kicks the football towards the switch. The lights go off.
“Dark,” he says, slowly.
“Dar,” says Noah.
“Luan?” Say ‘dark’.”
“Dak,” mumbles Luan.
He nods. Another kick, and the lights go back on.
“Bright.”
“Bri.”
“Brigh.”
Sylwia hurries in, looking worried. “Miroslav, stop that! There are safer ways to educate them! They might get hurt.”
“They won’t.” Kick. The lights go off.
“Dark.”
“Dark.”
Kick.
“Light.”
“Light.”
In unison, the children echo their father.
Sylwia emits a frustrated sound, going off to feed the dog.

Their first training session together was a disaster. All three of them kept misunderstanding each other’s signals and rather mangled English. The three-pronged attack of Klose, Toni and Ribery had a serious problem - no common language.
It took a few more training sessions and their teammates’ help before they managed to devise appropriate signals and gestures with minimal words. By preseason, the trio was beginning to gel.
It’s the game against Karlsruhe now, and Toni scores. The trio celebrates together, each jabbering in a different language. Yet, when it comes to celebrations, language is no barrier to understanding each other

Bastian Schweinsteiger had lost a bet. This season, he had yet to score a goal. His punishment? His girlfriend was allowed to paint his nails jet-black.
He hoped and prayed that nobody would notice.
No such luck. The moment he arrived for training, Poldi noticed. “Why’re your nails painted? They look so girly.” He explained, and Poldi started laughing.
The whole day, he was forced to endure teases about his nails. He was sick of explaining, and frustrated when he saw knowing grins appear on his teammates’ faces.
By nightfall, Schweini had decided that he hated girls and their cunning.

He glares at the offending elbow, frustrated. This is his final season. He’s supposed to play every game, every minute. Instead, thanks to his carelessness, he’s stuck in a hospital.
Five weeks until he will be fit enough for matchdays. He begins calculating the number of games he’ll miss. At least there’re plenty of internationals, so he will miss less Bundesliga games. But he’ll miss some UEFA cup action as well. He fumes.
Everyday, he devours the articles on Bayern’s website, especially the match reports.
Hmmm. At least, Rensing is doing a passable job between the goalposts in his absence.
