They’ve never had time to be with each other. There were always training sessions, or meetings, or just absolute exhaustion. There were club games, and patriotic responsibilities.
David stays up late, and sleeps all day. Gary goes to bed early but never sleeps.
There were children, and wife, then wives. It was a two-hour plane ride, then a twelve-hour one. It went from, “We’ll try to see you next week” to, “Maybe sometime next summer.”
David still calls him every day. He says “I love you”, but never “I miss you.” He can’t say it. He means it too much.
