I've been thinking a lot about this whole early decision to Haverford vs. Wesleyan thing. Had a good discussion about it with my mom, but I'm still somewhat unsure of course. Here's how I see it:
Early Decision to Haverford:
-Might increase my chances of getting in
-I'd love love love to go there
-Really friendly, beautiful place
-Is top knotch in what I want without being pretentious or snub or having that kind of reputation
-Non-competitive (Quaker), a lot about community
-Anxious to know earlier if I get in or not
-Binding (which is a somewhat scary thought)
Early Decision to Wesleyan:
-Adored it when I visited, could definitely picture loving it there
-Top knotch in what I want
-Interesting community; intellectual, political, artsy
-A bit more on the intense/competitive side, not sure if that's a pro or a con (probably a con)
-Very high, almost pretentious reputation, intense competitive students
-Might increase my chances of getting in (but then I can't go to Haverford)
-Really difficult and a bit of a kraps shoot getting in; not sure I'll get in
-Binding (which is a somewhat scary thought)
Regular Decision to Haverford:
-May go insane with anticipation waiting to find out
-May have less of a chance getting in?
-Not binding, which might make me feel better, still having the choice
-But I love it...
Regular Decision to Wesleyan:
-In a way it's almost less competitive so would it increase my chance?
-More likely to decrease my chance
-Not binding, which might make me feel better, still having the choice
-Probably won't get in though, right?
Conclusion: I PROBABLY want to do Early Decision to HAVERFORD, I THINK
GUH see the thing about considering early decision is that it is an EARLY DECISION; suddenly everything seems to be going by too quickly and I'm wondering if any of this is really right and if I should just do everything normal and REGULAR decision or maybe this is how it would feel if I did that anyways and all this college business is just really hitting me right now because for god's sake it's the next very very important four years of my life we're talking about and by a few months from now I'll know and have to decide my fate!!
Thought of comfort: As explained to me by my mom (and I am VERY grateful that she did, because it makes me feel WAY better about all this), if things weren't right in the end, it isn't that hard to transfer. Nothing is set in stone here. And that's the truth! Especially because she transfered schools after only three weeks! And ended up very very happy! Yay!
P.S. SO excited for next week's HOUSE!!
