This has been posted by several people on my flist, but if you haven't seen it. You should. Because you can't deny the logic behind his words. You can't say love doesn't matter. Because, my friends. Love does matter.
You may think 'this doesn't even affect you.' or 'You don't live there, what do you care?'. Well, you know what? I don't live there. And I know that it Alabama there is about an icecube's chance in hell of this state passing anything even remotely recognizing the rights of same sex couples. But I still care about my fellow man. My fellow American. I have hope for California, for my state, for all states, for this country. To open their eyes, and to extend a simple right. An olive branch. to those people who have been wronged. Who have been given what they sought and then had it ripped from their grasp because someone said 'I'm not comfortable with your love'.
It disgusts me. It makes me sick to my stomach to think of those people who were elated to have a right that should have been theirs long ago, only to be sucker punched with the legal equivalent of 'Sike!'
We have a dark past America, and without a change of mindset to become more open and accepting of others we are set to have a dark future. If one person cannot turn to the other and say 'I respect you as an equal to me. I respect your rights and your prerogative, even as they differ from me own' then you know what? We're all fucked.
Now that I've had my say, voiced my opinion, and exercised my First Amendment right as an American citizen. Please listen to someone who is able to put their thoughts on the matter into a more comprehensive form.
