Harvest - photo post

S and I gathered all the fallen fruit from two of our three appletrees today. There are still a few apples remaining on the trees, but most of the fruit has fallen on these two. The fruit on the remaining tree hasn't begun to fall yet, but it has more apples than the other tree with red fruit, so we will end up with 2½-3 times as many red apples as we have now! I think we'll have to get hold of my father's press so we can juice at least half, or we'll never manage to use them before they go bad.

The red apples (both trees) are the nicest for eating raw. The ones we gathered today are also just very pretty apples that you can polish to a beautiful shine - these are the type you'd hang on your Yule tree by a red ribbon. I'm not sure what the apple is called, although it very much looks like a Pigeon, and also tastes much the same. The other red apples we have are Cox Orange as far as I know, and they taste absolutely delicious, whether raw or cooked. The yellow ones are of a type called Philippa here, and very good for making compote.
