Safely ensconced

I'm in Salt Lake. All is well. I have a perfectly tiny little room with a desk, a bed, and a glorious view of most of the city. I'm on the Ninth Floor, and several hundred feet above the rest of the city, so the view works pretty darn well. It is sunny and hot here, but not Hot like it was in Austin. I am a happy camper (figuratively speaking).

The Smiths Marketplace advertised a special on Harlequin and other "Romantic Books", in particular a series about Desire, wherein you will be immersed in a wonderfully romantic relationship, and read about all of your desires being fulfilled. Yes, that's right, on the loudspeaker in the grocery store in the heart of the Mormon empire, they were advertising porn for women. Perhaps there's some hope for this place yet.

I skated down the hill to the library, where I am now, and oh my everloving lord, I almost died. There are some substantial hills (see several hundred feet elevation change note above) and it is very easy to get going 20 or 25 miles an hour. When I was also going across light rail tracks at a bad angle, jumping median strips, and then trying to avoid going off a cliff (all within a 5 second period), I got a bit worried. Plus my skates are all ghetto and beat to shit. I'm missing a wheel, and the ones that are left are coning pretty bad. Yeah. Slipsliding all over the place. I guess it would have been funny to wreck myself on the first day I'm here, before my classes even start, but not that funny.
