.who.

Matthew Danvers, age 24. College graduate, art degree. Wanted to be a comic artist--still does, in fact. Always naive, always sweet, always extroverted. Once, that was all there was of note about him. Then a sorcerer decided to invoke the Tarot and Matthew became the Fool.

.what.

The Fool of Tarot fame. The beginning of a journey into unknown lands. For Matthew, it wasn't a possession. The Fool became him, he became the Fool, and he never knew the difference. At least, not until he learned the unfortunate side effect of being an archetype: He'd become a magnet for the paranormal. He's also, though he doesn't know this yet, a "null zone" for magical ability.

.when.

Nearly two years ago, February 2011. Matthew had just graduated college and was starting his job at a secondhand bookstore. He didn't realize what had happened; the first sign was the sound of everyone reading Tarot in his head, which he naturally thought were hallucinations. Eighteen months ago he took a vacation from his job and checked himself into a mental hospital, where the sorcerer who had begun the chaos found him, explained what had happened, and sent him back to his life. Matthew can count on one hand the times he's heard from the man since.

.where.

William McNamee, an Irish-American sorcerer in Vermont, was having trouble reading the cards on his own and decided it would be a great idea to invoke the spirits of the Tarot. Not being the most forward-thinking of people, he didn't know what to do with them once he'd summoned them. The spirits escaped his control and entered twenty-two people who were perfectly suited to their nature and tendencies.

.why.

Matthew fit the Fool role perfectly. He was starting a journey--he'd just graduated college and starting a new job. He was naive, trusting, cheerful. He had a loyal dog. He was eager for adventure and happy to help anyone in need. The Fool chose him because he was perfect.

.how.

Matthew has a few powers to his name, but the one he knows is that he hears the voices of Tarot readers no matter where they are. He could, if he so chose, answer them, and they would hear, whether they actually have any gift with divination or not. He's also what some worlds call a null; any magic or paranormal power directed at him dies on contact.
