[ACTION]

[You know what makes a good alarm clock on Christmas morning? ... Besides small children? ... DOGS.]

[There was once a time when a Christmas with the Masons involved Heather using her father's bed as a trampoline. But by this point, she's more interested in sleeping in. You know, in general. But that's hard to do with Pokemon around.]Ugh ( Read more... )

[Henry had been minding his OWN DAMN BUSINESS in dream-land but then there was a huge excited orange LUMP on him. He squawks and fights at Cujo blindly, arms still restricted in his sleeping bag.]

Heather! Get him off! He's eating me!

[Setting the flashlight aside, Heather grins and leans out of bed, planting a hand against the floor so that she can slide out of the blankets. Because getting out of bed like a normal person is for lamers.]

All right, Cujo, leave 'm alone.

[She reaches over to headlock the squirming dog and sort of haul him off of the photographer's sleeping bag.]

You owe me.

[Henry sits up and X(-faces at the girl and her firedog beast for a moment before grunting.]

Whatever. Sure.

[And then he flops back down and pulls the flap back over his head.]

[And Heather reaches over and pulls it right back off of him.]

NOPE.

Nuh-uh. You're not allowed to sleep in on Christmas day.

[Seriously doubting that she would allow 'sleep' to be his gift Henry sat up and rubbed his face.]

Morning.

[ XI sit...sit....sit....OH YEAH gifts. He reaches into his sleeping bag and withdraws an oblong box he'd somehow managed to keep convincingly hidden until now. He didn't think Heather would go through his bag but...Henry was Henry. It was wrapped in newspaper and topped with a normal-looking bow. he slid it onto the foot of her bed and hooked his chin over the edge. So sleepy.]

I got you a present.

[Nope. He can sleep in the afternoon once all the presents are opened. >8I]

You did?

[She's actually a LITTLE surprised at that-- she hadn't been sure if he even had any money. But she grins at him anyway before scooting over to grab her bag from where it sat on the floor at the foot of her bed.]

I got something for you too.

[She'd kept it in her bag for a couple of reasons. One, he could see RIGHT UNDER HER BED from where he slept so hiding gifts there was out, and two, Claudy's presence in there was probably enough to keep him away.]

[She tugs out a sort of bulky package and a small box before handing both over to him.]

Merry Christmas!

[Henry's slight little smile turns into a full-on grin when she passes him his own gift.]

[;-; A Christmas present. A real one! No wait. TWO? TWO? HOW DOES HE DEAL WITH THIS THERE ARE TWO OF THEM that is one more than one. All of these feels.

Thank you. ...open yours first.

[He pulls his gift down onto his lap before digging around in his sleeping bag for a second, smaller gift. Where was adopted!dad at?]

Don't mind if I do!

[She takes the package and starts to pick the wrapping paper off with no small amount of excitement. Less at the anticipation of whatever was inside and more at... well. This is the first time she's had a family Christmas in... well, a long time. And even further, it's the first time in more than twenty years that she's had a family Christmas with MORE people than just her father. As if having Dad back wasn't enough.]

[Henry places Harry's gift off to the side and starts the slow...probably painfully slow for Heather...process of opening his gifts. Henry was the child that liked to keep all the paper in tact and cringed when the tape pulled away the colored surface of the stuff. UGLY WHITE PATCHES. MARRED. Ahfdkslfggl. But eventually he did get them open and sat admiring his prizes.]

[C:]

[there was so much food oh god he was going to eat ALL OF IT. today probably. Maybe. if he didn't get forced outside.]

Thank you so much, Heather.

[... YEAH IT... IS PAINFULLY SLOW. Heather was always the type to open presents like a small whirlwind. ... Not quite so much anymore, but needless to say she pulls the newspaper off of her gift before Henry's even done unpeeling the tape, and she lets out a happy exclamation of surprise when she sees what he got her.]

Oh, dude!

[BOOTS! YES!]

This is perfect!

[Her old ones, while beloved, had been slowly but surely getting more and more worn-out.]

[By the time Henry finally got his own open, Heather had already flopped backwards onto the floor and was tugging one of the boots on with her foot in the air.]

No prob, m'man! You're one of us now, so you get all the perks. Like Christmas presents.
