70. [DREAM/DREAM/DREAM/DREAM]

[So while the rest of Johto alternately panics, cries, or rushes around trying to capture as many of the soulstealing insects as possible, there are dozens of souls floating around in that dream limbo, drifting in and out of each other's slumbering thoughts and visions. Whether it's nightmarish flashbacks or just those dreams where you're at school ( Read more... )

[Okay, the sign is more than a touch creepier than she's used to, but she's no chicken. She's not scared of ghosts, or even the undead- she's fought them both. She's not exactly cocky, but she is pretty sure she can give anything that comes her way at least a decent fight. She shakes herself a little, catching herself staring at the sign, just staring like an idiot.

Like a sign is going to scare her.]

I'm not scared of blood. I'm a girl, I bleed every month like clockwork. [It's not so creepy when it's put in that perspective! She's bled before- she's not scared of blood. Hasn't she been injured enough fighting? Just because the Judges keep clans that fight monsters safe from death doesn't mean they prevent injuries, and Ritz has been clawed, gored, stabbed, shot, frozen, shocked, set on fire, and half-drowned in the course of learning how to fight in Ivalice.

Ritz is totally going to open that door.]

[Spunk is a good thing to have in Silent Hill, if Heather's case is anything to go by. But spunk only carried you so far... and what lies on the other side of the door is probably not in the least like anything she's seen before. This town's not friendly to kids... at least, not in Heather's experience, which is the only one that matters in her own head.]

[The door comes open with some difficulty-- and on the other side, there's... rust. Rust, and lots of it. No blood, though... even if the corroding metal of the walls and the pipes that run all along the ceiling, sometimes in odd, bent lines, sort of makes it look like they're splattered with blood. But no, no gore here. Just a dark tunnel and a faint gurgle of running water, accompanies by the sulfurous smell of a sewer.]

[She's underground, that much is clear...]

[But if she tries to open that door again once it's shut behind her, she'll find herself unable to. The lock is broken.]

[Oh, god, ew. Ew. That smell. Ritz wrinkles her nose a little at it and resolves to breathe through her mouth for as long as possible. That's a new one to her. She's trying the door again, just because it'd get her away from the smell, and growls something uncomplimentary under her breath. Right. The door is not an option, so she's going to keep going forward.

She severely dislikes having her options cut off, though.] Ha-ha, very funny. This isn't creepy, just gross! [Seriously, at a later point in canon than she's from, she says that dead people in the snow intrigue her. :|]

If you want to creep me out, you're gonna have to try harder.

[Understandably, there's no reply. Just the hollow echo of her own voice, accompanied by the sound of running water. What are you doing yelling at an empty tunnel, Ritz? Jeez. Talking to imaginary people isn't gonna get you out of here any faster, you know!]

[Heading down the tunnel offers more of the same-- the water gets louder, so at least she's headed towards something... but no signs of life. Just... rusted walls and grating underfoot. How long can that go on?]

[It's as much psyching herself up for 'I'm not creeped out, really!'. She's going to start walking at a brisk pace- she's pretty eager to put some tracks between her and this place, and maybe find her way out.

...It's just sort of disturbing that there's nothing around.]

[It is disturbing, isn't it... and it goes on... and on... and on.]

[In fact, for quite awhile, the only company Ritz will have at all is her own voice, and that ever-present trickle of running water.]

[.... Until a strange and piercing set of sounds comes echoing down the tunnel... not from ahead, not quite... from above? ... No... maybe below? It's hard to tell. Far-off bangs and clanks, and the nails-on-chalkboard sound of rusty gears being turned. They're distant-- and not entirely unusual for a place like this, but-- .... is that the cry of something... animal somewhere among the sounds...?]

...that's just evil. XD Sayonara, sleep. usedfeint June 27 2011, 08:05:40 UTC
[Ritz is humming a song- it's not particularly bad, all things considered, but that may be because the set of lyrics she got was in a fairly safe dream-world. A kiddie-pool, if you will. No bawdy ballads about the sailor and the fishwife here!]

[She's used to quiet, or has gotten used to relative quiet, but that's 'quiet with animal sounds'. This quiet has her on-edge and nervous, and wishing desperately that she still had Femme Fatale with her. The teenager jumps nearly a mile at the sounds, and then laughs. It's silly. Just noises that, really, she might have been expecting. She moves more carefully after that, her stance more ready for combat. Silly she might be for jumping, but she doesn't know what could be around the next corner.]

[The might-be animal noise has her shifting more to the balls of her feet and running lightly- she can cover quite a bit of ground that way, and as an added bonus, it makes less noise than the heavy thud of allowing her whole foot to impact.]

Be glad I didn't link to the "Brookhaven" track from the movie. foolishwren June 27 2011, 22:48:21 UTC
[Eventually? The strange metallic sounds (and the occasional low, organic noises behind them), cease, and the only sound accompanying her is the quiet patter of her own feet.]

[Welcome back to Alone. ... If she really IS alone, anyway...]

I AM. Also, sorry on the late. ;; ---AHHAUTOPLAY. AAAAAGHHH usedfeint July 3 2011, 07:20:54 UTC
[Ritz almost misses the noise. Almost. As it is, she's going to keep up a fairly decent clip because she wants out of this place as soon as possible. ]

[She's going to look around for something- anything- to pick up that she can use to defend herself. Having something in her hands would help take some of the edge off of her nerves. She got used to having a weapon of her own, and not having one rattles her nerves as-is.]

[Hm, nothing around... nothing... nothing-- OOH, HEY LOOK. A chunk of steel piping, lying over on the ground in a pile of trash near the edge of the wall. PICK IT UP Y/N?]

usedfeint July 5 2011, 06:22:23 UTC
[HELL YES. I mean. Yeah, Ritz is totally going to grab for that piping and swing it experimentally. If it's too heavy, she may end up leaving it again, but it's at least something!]

[It's fairly heavy, but not unusable. If anything, it'll pack a punch.]

[But against what...?]

[The tunnel ahead looms wide and empty ... lit only by that sort of unearthly light that doesn't seem to have much of a source... it's whatever dim illumination can filter in through the tiny holes and gaps to whatever outside there may be.]
