70. [DREAM/DREAM/DREAM/DREAM]

[So while the rest of Johto alternately panics, cries, or rushes around trying to capture as many of the soulstealing insects as possible, there are dozens of souls floating around in that dream limbo, drifting in and out of each other's slumbering thoughts and visions. Whether it's nightmarish flashbacks or just those dreams where you're at school ( Read more... )

[The smell doesn't bother him too much right away, except for being so strong; it's something he'd almost expected, going through a door like that. As he steps fully into the room, he realizes that there's no going back out the way he came in, and that's when he starts feeling uneasy.] Where's the stupid door out of here...

[After a few moments, he has to put a hand up to cover his nose and mouth to help block out the smell. It's the chemicals he doesn't like, it smells like a damn alchemy lab in here and really, that's the only thing he minds. Really. Certainly not the outlines of the bed or the bottles that he quickly looks away from. He decides that he's imagining the old, foggy impressions that start to stir in the back of his mind at the sight of them.]

[He walks to the side, reaching to find a wall--can't go to the center of the room, that's where the circle would be--no, that's stupid. There's probably things to trip over in the middle, that's all. And if he can feel around the walls, he can find another door out of this creepy room.]

[There has to be a way out. Right?]

[There's always a way out of the room, Envy. ... Whether there's a way out of this place... that's the question.]

[He'll be able to locate a wall, but not before accidentally knocking over a flimsy tray of equipment... there's a patter as needles scatter out across the floor. A couple of them might snap under his feet-- but then his hand will encounter the wall. It might take awhile to find a doorknob... but after bumping into a few gurneys (one of which is much heavier than the others... and if he feels it to see what makes it so, the thing he touches will be soft, fleshy, and still somewhat warm...), he'll eventually find the door...]

[The longer Envy stays in this room, the more intensely unnerved he becomes. Despite knocking over the tray of needles in his haste to find the wall, it's a relief when he manages to feel it against his hand. He moves cautiously at first, not wanting to knock over anything else that might actually hurt him or miss the door.]

[But the longer it takes, the more those old memories start creeping in, taking over. He starts walking faster, hugging the wall to avoid a transmutation circle that he knows isn't there, and when he runs into the heavier gurney he curses. And reaches to see what's lying there--bedridden for so long, dying slowly father why won't you come see me--before shoving the gurney away so violently it topples.]

[He's grateful to finally find the door and goes to open it immediately, eager to just get out, whatever might be waiting for him.]

[The gurney hits the floor with both a loud clatter and a dull THUD as whatever was on it falls off.]

[The doorknob takes some jiggling before it gives away-- in fact, he'll probably need to WRENCH it before it'll open for him-- but eventually it does, and Envy is treated to the sight of a blessedly-lit hallway. It still appears to be a hospital, with empty gurneys and lone, solitary IV poles here and there, but hey, it's open, he can see, and there's no transmutation circles in sight!]

[... Unfortunately, what IS in sight includes the impossibly tall figure directly in front of the door, almost as if it had been about to open it and come in, only to stop, startled, as someone on the other side opened it first. If it had eyes, it would be blinking in surprise. But it doesn't have eyes. What it does have are two arms almost as long as its body, that grow broader and meatier the closer they get to the ground until they resemble giant, fleshy clubs more than they do hands, a strangely-shaped head oddly reminiscent of a bendy-straw (but without the fond, juice-box-related memories that an actual bendy-straw might have evoked if Envy were a child of the contemporary age), with a set of puckered, feminine lips on the end.]

[It's looking right at him and just... standing there. Possibly because it hadn't expected a funny-looking thing to pop right out of the wall at it.]

[... But that's not gonna last long.]

[And wrench that doorknob he will, until he manages to force it open into extremely welcome light and fresh(er) air and...a path full of monster, damn it. Are you fucking serious, nightmare place?]

[He stands there for a second himself, on account of the sheer size and unexpectedness of the thing in front of him. But it's not something friendly that he can just stand there gawking at, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that much, and he's sure as hell not retreating back into that room. So Envy takes the chance afforded by the monster's surprise to do the only thing he can think of: diving through the narrow space between the doorframe and one of those huge clubs. He rolls when he hits the floor and is back on his feet in a movement that would have been smoother if he wasn't still shaky from before. Weapon, weapon, shit he can't seem to make his arm transform like he wants it to and he needs something...aha!]

[Grabbing one of those lone IV poles, Envy is now armed and ready to defend himself against this thing he really doesn't like the look of (maybe it's that creepy lip-face). Once he's grabbed it, he hurriedly turns to swing it behind him in case the monster was faster than it looked.]

[Most awkward 'opened the door at the wrong time' moment ever. ... Actually, no, I take that back. It could probably get more awkward than that. Like, if one of them was naked or something. Thankfully, this isn't the case.]

[Also thankfully, Envy is quicker than the beast, and his lunge is just in time, because a split second after he makes his move, one of the enormous, meaty club-arms comes smashing into the door's frame, making it shudder-- and it's wheeling around to face him, arm still raised. The lips on its 'face' are sucking at the air greedily.]

[Although it had clearly been surprised to see him, it's obvious that it's recovered from its shock. The IV pole thumps against a blocking arm, and the beast steps forward, clearly trying to bull Envy backwards.]

[This would be less of a problem if the hall wasn't so narrow and the IV pole wasn't something a lot more awkward than he was used to fighting with. But now that he's recovering from the surprise himself, he's quickly becoming more angry than afraid.] So you want a fight?

[Instead of going backwards, he dashes to the side to get his back to the hallway instead of against the wall. His one advantage here is that he's fast, powers or not. Getting cornered going against that thing is not a position he wants to be in. As he moves, he tries jabbing the top end of the pole at the monster's right knee, practically snarling.] Let's see you just try to beat me!

[Yes, it wanted a fight! Luckily... it was fairly slow... but it was also very big.]

[Still, the jabbing at the relatively-frail legs of the beast made it tip in balance slightly, although as if it knew what he was doing, it lets out a bellow and swings its club-like arms mightily at him, barreling forwards.]

[... It's then that he might notice the long slits on the end of each club... with something dangerously sharp-looking starting to protrude from each one...]

I decided to let him keep his healing powers, so free rein to cause any injuries you want ! exeggutorhead June 24 2011, 20:28:47 UTC
[Envy barely manages to duck out of the way of the swinging arms, dropping into a low crouch on the floor and delivering a sweeping kick to its legs before trying to scramble backwards again. The IV pole is slowing him down, but he doesn't want to let go of it. His eyes widen and then narrow again when he sees those sharp things starting to come out.]

Well you're just fucking full of surprises, aren't you.

[Envy's pretty sure that the monster doesn't even understand what he says, but bluffing and talking certainly makes him feel better.]

[The creature makes some shrill, gobbling noises and stabs straight downwards. This time, though, it seems wise to his leg-aiming tactics, and blocks his kick by swinging one of its great arms like a battle-axe-- a veritable spear of sharp bone now sticking from the end of its club-like arm.]

[If he's lucky, he'll be able to recoil quickly enough to avoid a deep cut on his leg-- but if not, that leg is in some deep trouble.]

[If it hadn't been for the IV, Envy might have been quick enough to avoid it. Unfortunately, he isn't that lucky, and he yelps and curses in pain as his leg is cut open. He still moves away from the monster though, dragging his injured leg behind him until he has room to stand again. Or...not so much stand as lean heavily on the IV for support, still moving backwards with an odd hopping motion.]

[Although even before he's stood up, there are white crackles of light around the injury and it begins healing, the skin and muscle knitting back together even though his leg is still covered in blood. He spares a thought that at least he's lucky in one way in this place. His next is that he might be able to use this. He continues to favor the leg heavily and obviously, hoping the monster isn't smart enough to figure out what that light had meant underneath the blood.]

[There was one thing for certain about this beast-- it wasn't particularly bright. But it was relentless-- injury or not, it continues to barrel forwards, pressing him back down the hallway... even if it cannot injure him, it certainly isn't planning on letting him pass...]

[Envy keeps moving back, taking a chance on moving as slowly as that injury ought to have made him, trying to trick the monster into thinking he couldn't move quicker...up until he comes up parallel with one of those abandoned gurneys, and darts to the side in order to shove the whole thing in the path of the monster, shouting loudly in hopes of creating more confusion. Without wasting a second, he jabs the IV pole as hard as he can at the thing's lips, then drops to the ground in hopes of scrambling underneath the gurney and the monster's legs to get behind it.]

[Ooh, Envy... in a larger space, that strategy probably would have been great. But as such... confusing an enormous thing packed into a narrow hallway and then trying to go underneath it... yeeeah. Probably not the best idea.]

[The Closer lets out a jittery bugle at the noise and the jabs, and sort of-- ... well, goes berserk. Flipping the gurney, stomping and flailing wildly with both its oddly-pointed feet AND the bludgeoning, meaty arms. It's aiming to trample whatever's underfoot and it's probably doing a pretty good job at it.]

[Most of Envy's problems are coming from the whole small space huge monster situation. Give him some room and he could have fought circles around it, but he's pretty limited when it takes up the entire hall and there's nowhere to go but backwards. Thus, the gamble to try getting behind it.]

[Which, as he decides as he's being effectively trampled, had not come out in his favor. He hasn't been injured this much since before he came to Johto, and it hurts and there's blood everywhere and he's pretty sure he's going to die at least once. But he'll keep trying to crawl out from underneath the monster whenever he can actually move, not caring which side he comes out on so long as he gets out.]

[Hurts, don't it? Not even near-instant healing capabilities can eliminate pain.]

[No matter which side he emerges on, if he wants to get away long enough to heal without having the damage instantly re-done, is best bet is to make like a tree and GET OUTTA THERE!]
