Considering quasi-vegetarianism.

I'm trying to slowly eliminate most meat from my diet (except fish). I was walking around the grocery store (read: super walmart), losing hope about ever finding anything healthy that didn't sound gross, or something good that didn't contain some meat products in it. Then I found the soy section.

Mind you, I am extremely skeptical about health foods, especially ingredient lists prefaced with "soy!" and "gluten sommat!" and (shudder) "tofu". I come from a family that lives primarily off beef, chicken, and pork, and they already think I'm a freak for disliking most meat. But for $2.88 a box, I tried vegetarian nuggets and corn dogs. I passed over the boca burgers because hey-- I don't even like the texture and taste of *real* hamburgers, much less imitation burgers. Bree tells me that those are really good, though. I'm now sitting down with a sampler platter of vegetarian foods, and I am pleasantly surprised. ALL of it is good. ALL of it is better than real meat, as far as I'm concerned. I can't believe it. Even better, it all has less fat than the real thing. 61% less in the case of the nuggets.

So I'm thinking this conversion isn't unthinkable. I already have a very small amount of meat in my diet, but not getting enough protein is making me unhealthy. If these other imitation foods turn out to be as good as the ones I'm trying now, I might go 99% vegetarian, with brief stints of sushi.

Sorry fish. Can't help it.
