I'm happy to report that I'm in my apartment tonight, not jail

I got chased by a police officer tonight. His lights and siren were on and he was getting right up on my bumper and everything. This is because I, apparently, took too long to pull over. I mean, the second he flipped on the blue lights I started my safety blinkers to let him know I was trying to find a place to pull over. The street I was on had no shoulder and a really high curb, so I couldn't actually get off the road, and I didn't want to just stop in the middle of the street. I mean, seriously, I wasn't going to pull over somewhere that this officer was going to get hit by a passing vehicle.

However, when he turned on his siren about 90 seconds into what I shall nostalgically refer to as "the chase" I started getting really freaked out and all I could think was, "oh my God, if I don't find a spot to pull over soon he's going to start calling for backup or something, and I'm eventually going to get pulled out of my car and thrown to the ground facefirst and then get taken down to the station and I'll get booked and photographed and they'll ask if I have any aliases and I'll have to spend a night in jail all because of this stupid curb... how much longer can I keep driving before I get charged for a serious crime..."

Luckily, none of this came to pass. I was able to stop in a church parking lot before the you're-officially-evading-a-police-officer time limit kicked in. He told me the only reason he had gotten antsy was that I had passed a couple side streets where I could have gotten off the main road and stopped. But, all the same, he did thank me for stopping where he didn't have to worry about getting hit. In all seriousness, he was really nice, and the whole ordeal was only over my expired license plate. Which, I might add, I've been trying to get my parents to renew for like two months now. All the more reason for them to just put the car in my name so I can take care of this stuff.

So long as I get the registration renewed and show up for my court date, the officer promised me, the DA will throw out my case and I won't have to pay anything. He even put down on my citation how polite I was.

And I was worried he'd be drawing his gun and throwing me to the pavement.

car, police, chase, fear
