I can't believe it's just a week until Christmas. This season certainly snuck up on me. You'd think it would have seemed longer, since Thanksgiving was earlier than usual - but no. My mind boggles at the approach of the holidays and the new year.
This is the first Christmas in my entire life that I will not see any family. Josh and I are going to Minnesota to see his parents, since we went back east to see mine last year. It's a little odd, to not be going home. And a little sad. But it's simultaneously pretty exciting to be going to the Birks' - Candace and Raye are such wonderful people, and I'm excited to be able to spend such a special time with them. I'm not much looking forward to the Minnesota weather, though. ;)
So I think we'll leave for Minnesota on friday night or saturday, returning wednesday. Then we're back here for just a few short days, and then it's off to DC to visit Rachel and Nate! I'm deliriously excited to see them, and to spend New Years with them in DC...and it's so nice that we'll be there for nearly a week, so we have a good long time to catch up, relax, enjoy the visit...just yay.
And after that, it's life as usual. ;) Josh actually will be attending a conference while we're in DC, and then his new semester starts the day after we get back, on the 7th (so early!!!). And I will be doing my usual working, socializing, job hunting, etc.
I feel badly about leaving the kitties for so long...people will be coming to feed them every day that we're gone, but I still worry that they'll get lonely or upset. Poor things. Bringing them with us is just not an option though, and putting them in a kennel or something would be traumatic for them, I think. Better that they get to stay in their own house. I fret!
Anyway, things are good, and I'm very much looking forward to the next couple weeks. Now to just get through this one! :)
a very merry christmas,
