I haven't updated in a while. I had reason. Mainly my life finally started speeding up, and I had a hard time in keeping up myself. So, first things first. Nearly one month ago I went to
w.t.f.-con.2 Which is the second coference on W.T.F. which stands for Wtf The Future
A sort of geeks and people interested in the future meeting. It was nice. It wasn't as cools as wtf-con 1. Which provided the cribble from which OurAnswer grew from being a small seed in my mind, and be delivered for all the world to see. Yet WTFCON2 was great too. The main thing that impressed me was Rick. Rick, also known as the solaroof guy is a sort of 50 y.o. inventor, who invented and put together (from previous inventions) a REALLY innovative tecnology to live in. The kind of tecnology that could let us survive a thousand years of glaciation. That good. The tecnology consists in a new way to build our houses. The new houses would be a sort of double glass structure. Between the two layers of glass water or soap bubble would run constantly. The soap bubble provide a perfect insulation (since they stop the convective motion of the air) both against hot and cold temperature, You can also use them against too bright light. The water keeps the wall cooler, and the house is supposed to host plants. Enough plants to let the people who live inside survive out of them. Tomatoes, potatoes, carrrots, but also apple trees. Those houses can potentially be made big. SO the sun penetrates, feeds the plant, who traspire water. The water from the transpiration goes to the walls who are then always wet. But the whole inner environment will not be dumper than the inside of a forest. (not of a rain forest). The electricity to push the bubbles comes from a small pump which can easily run on 12 volts. The whole thing does not need foundation (except a couple of tanks to hold the two water reservoires: the soaped water tank, and the normal tank). Those tanks being under the earth would keep the heat much longer and will not freeze. Very interesting. You can learn more at his website:
http://www.solaroof.orgThe site has both a forum and a wiki. All the solaroof tecnoplogies have been copylefted by Rick, so no big company can put their hands on them. This is obviously very good. Yet one can't help wandering how much would they spread if someone with some serious money was giving a real push. Unfortunately those times the people with the money seem to be just ineterested in making more and more money.
Rick then
came to
Ouranswer, and wrote a comment to the last article we hosted. Now OurAnswer had many problems recently. The site have been down a couple of times, and always we lost some data. We also lost
vyoma great comments on the first Bush declarations on torture. Thanks
vyoma, and sorry!
I have a bit lost some of the spirit to keep the site up, but the last article I put up was just really interesting, it was the letter from Lovelock, that declared that the safest way forward, considering the risk of heating up the earth, was to make a 180 degrees turn into nuclear.
Rick wrote an
interesting comment, and since the site is a wiki, anybody can add tehir opinion. Obviously Ricky comment stresses out how much is actually possible with alternative tecnologies.
Both the
original letter,
Rick interesting comment and the
more aggressive comment by
Viridian are worth being read.
On a more personal note, I am ok, but I am soon leaving the UK. I will go through Europe to Italy.
