I know what you're all thinking, and no, you're not hallucinating. I really am posting icons, and no, it actually isn't time for 14valentines yet. That said, I am going to talk to you for a second or two here about another societal issue that I've been focusing on for a bit now. This holiday season, I'm collecting donations for a local Teen Homeless Shelter that one of my housemates works at. The goal is to be able to buy each of the 20 kids (ranging from age 14 to age 18) underwear, a pair of jeans, and a hoodie for Christmas.
This isn't a lot, y'all, but these kids go through life without anything. Almost everyone overlooks them, forgets that they exist. They live off of donations - food, clothing, everything they own, for the most part. Could you imagine never wearing anything new, including being dressed in second-hand underwear?
So yeah. I'm running a donation drive to buy Panties for Everyone! (except where boxers are more appropriate, of course.) You can read more about it here, if you want to, and if you're so moved, you can either donate there or click the shiny button below. Since the 4th, we've collected $2,631 and change, but I'd love love love to have $3,000 when donations close on the 20th. Even if all you can donate is $5.00, believe me, that will be a help - the vast majority of the donations received has been in amounts of less than $25.00
I really appreciate the good fortune I've had in my life, and the people who have extended a helping hand to me, I'm so very grateful to have the chance to pass that along to others who are in less fortunate circumstances, and I'm utterly stunned at how many people have helped me to do that. I'd love it if I could count a few of you in on this project - either through donations, or if you could link to the Panties for Everyone! project - and I thank you so very much in advance.
