FYI, a general update/reminder for those interested:
The Taiko concert is tomorrow (Saturday, the 19th) at the
Sundance Kabuki Cinema in Japantown in SF. The show starts at 7:30pm, but the seating is first-come, first-served, so we'll want to get seats early. I'm not sure exactly when the theater will be open for us to go in (some people said maybe 6:30, others said maybe 7:00), but I'm planning on getting there at latest around 7:00, and it'd probably be a good idea for other folks to plan on getting there at least that early, just in case. (I'm hoping there will be at least somebody else around at that time so that I can wait out front to meet people (since I'm currently holding most people's tickets) while somebody else can keep our seats reserved..)
For those interested, we will likely be going out to grab something to eat before the concert, probably at about 6:00 (most likely at one of the many many Japanese restaurants in the vicinity..)
For those even more interested, I highly recommend experiencing at least some of the Cherry Blossom Festival as well, and this Saturday promises to be by far the most interesting day of the festival in general. It's going to be going from around 11:00 to 5:00 or so. The schedule for the 19th includes the Taru Mikoshi purification ceremony (including the traditional breaking of the sake cask and toast) at 11, a bunch of performers and groups from Japan throughout the day, demonstrations of the Japanese tea ceremony (at noon, 1pm, 2pm, and 3pm), various nifty things on display from 11-5 (including (antique) Japanese swords, origami, bonsai, etc), and the "anime fashion show" (from 4:10-4:40). I will be there the whole day, and people are welcome to join me at any point.
At the moment, I am currently holding tickets for the following people:
Me (duh)
Rey
Gypsy
Tria
Lila (+1)
Megs
Mitch
(If you aren't on the above list and you're not holding your own tickets.. umm.. then getting in might be a problem :) )
A Few Requests:
If you're coming early to the festival and want to meet up, give me a call some time before you're actually going to get there. Depending on what's going on, I may not hear my phone, so you might have to leave a voicemail and I'll call you back (I'll be checking for voicemail on a regular basis). If you know you're going to be showing up at a particular time, let me know now and it'll make everything easier.
If you're not coming to the festival, but are interested in dinner, let me know so I know how many to plan for. (Or for that matter, if you are coming to the festival (and staying for dinner), let me know that too)
If you're only coming to the show, please aim to get there by 7:00. I'll be waiting for people in front of the theater, but it probably wouldn't hurt to give me a call when you're arriving anyway..
I'm pretty sure everybody out there who's coming has my phone number.. if not, drop me a note here and I'll make sure to get it to you somehow.
See you all tomorrow!
