Nearly 40 years later, I still recall the huge disappointment, in second grade, when the animated film we were to watch in class - The Magic Crane - turned out not to be about construction equipment, but about some stupid bird. Or the following year, third grade, when the “recorders” we’d be using in music class weren’t tape decks but a kind of flute. Had I known about Krampus at the time, threatening kids with switches, that probably would’ve been a rude surprise and a painful vocabulary lesson.
