Well, yeah, so now it's 2006. I've met a lot of people, been in a
lot of places, seen a lot of things. Being invited to work in the
band library was probably the best thing to happen to me, since I then
got invited to ride with the Wind Symphony to Grand Rapids for the
Michigan Music Conference, and then the grad students took me to Ann
Arbor to see Sabine Meyer play with the Tokyo String Quartet. And
I get paid.
Tomorrow I will become a probationary member of Phu Mu Alpha Sinfonia,
a famous national music fraternity. It's non-residential, social
organization that focuses on the advancement of music for MSU and the
world. Its brothers include virtually the entire male staff at
MSU, not to mention Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, Andre Previn,
Morton Gould, John Cage, Arnold Schoenberg, Count Basie, Jamey
Aebersold, Samuel Barber, Michael Tillson Thomas, and John Philip
Sousa, to name a few. It was founded at New England Conservatory
on October 6, 1898. Pretty amazing . . .
The Hawks go to the big dance tomorrow. I'm so close to the game
in Detroit, and yet, so far. I can be content watching it on
Peter's projector screen, though.
I'll be taking conducting lessons from Verena, a doctoral student from Austria, starting in a couple weeks.
There was a winter weather warning issued this weekend, but it's still
raining, as it has been for some time. We haven't had real
snowfall since before break. Keep you fingers crossed,
everyone. I'm gonna go do laundry.
