I love this song. It makes me kind of emotional, but I love it.

This is going to be a long, leisurely entry. A sentence or two here and there. Unless I get really caught up. Which is a possibility, because a good thing just happened. I've been informally reunited with what I like to think of as "a long-lost friend." We drifted apart rather abruptly, as a result of a little (unnecessary) drama; but, alas, we have found each other once again. I'm excited because I already know her from a year or two ago, but she seems to have blossomed and so I am anxious to rediscover her. I bet you all would like to know who this mystery girl is. You'll have to ask me. Because I like to be secretive. *Cackle* Actually I don't know how to cackle. Just play along.

So, it's now been an hour or so since I began this post. It's fun to take your time. I read a lovely book over the weekend. Middlesex, by Jeffrey Eugenides (author of The Virgin Suicides), recommended to me by dear Bettina misspissed. It features an engaging, hermaphroditic (is that word?) narrator who recounts his history, starting with his Grecian grandparents (who are also siblings). That's all I'll give away. Sorry if that ruined something for you... I've started a new book, courtesy of Brandon, called Original Wisdom: Stories of an Ancient Way of Knowing. It's very interesting, and I'm only sixty pages in. An autobiographical account of a psychologist/anthropologist and his time living amongst indigenous tribes in Malaysia. Their perspective is so different from ours, as you can imagine. And much more well-adjusted and natural, in my opinion. Uh oh...I'm getting all hippie-like again. Sorry, I can't help it. But they're so much happier than us Westerners (even despite their realization that they are dying out), and it's hard for me not to think that they're getting something most of us aren't. I could go on a little spiel here, but it will just sound cheesy. So just read the book instead. If you want. (In one tribe, no one ever commands anyone above the age of two to do anything. Now that's freedom.)

What else to mindlessly write about? I tried to do laundry today (hooray!) but discovered I only had enough detergent for one load (boo!). Three quarters of that load is still in a heap on my bed. Will the lonely socks and wrinkled t-shirts make it to the closet....? Only time will tell. My room still isn't clean, but it's better. And my computer isn't making whirring noises at the moment!! Huzzah! I had to turn this bastard off earlier because the noise was unbearable. It wouldn't be so bad if it were a consant hum, but it's random and clickety. If that makes any sense.

I need some new music. I'm getting bored with my selection. So lay it on me. But don't go overboard, kids. I just want a few that I can give my undivided attention to. It takes some time for me to warm up to an album and get to know it. Unless it's unbelievably spectacular at first listen and strikes a chord. That doesn't happen too terribly often, though. I dare you to make a suggestion. Here's a rundown of what I've been listening to a lot lately, to give you an idea of my musical taste:

*The Shins
*Daft Punk (Discovery)
*Mirah (Advisory Committee)
*Radiohead
*Bjork
*Wilco (A Ghost Is Born)
*Olivia Tremor Control (Dusk at Cubist Castle)
*The Smiths (Louder Than Bombs)
*The Faint
*Modest Mouse (Good News...)
*The Pixies
*Spoon
*Cat Power
*Air
*My Interfuse Mixes (which doesn't really help anyone except the three people who listened to them, and not even in their entirety)
*Blake's dance mix "Dancey-Pants Ninny-Poo"
*and of course....Julia's 80s Mix #1 which I slyly and secretly kept in my CD player without her knowing...until i told her recently. don't worry, she didn't really care (right?)

Those are just a few. So get on the ball. I'm downloading Fisherspooner from Soulseek as I chat and write. Exciting.
