Restaurant fun I

Saturday June 8th: Malone's Sportsbar, Kitsilano.

My first dining experience in Kits was disappointing, although I saw so many interesting restaurants there that I'm sure I'll be back. Nonetheless, it was an interesting experience involving missing chicken, enough fake lemonade to make me pee all night, and some towed cars.

Malone's was packed full of people watching the Carolina vs. Detroit playoff game. My dining companions didn't give a damn, but I couldn't stop watching the tv well off in the distance. We sat on the porch and suffered through the inferno of heat given off by one of those heating poles. Thankfully it was shut off until the weather cooled. But anyway, onto the food. I wasn't feeling particularly hungry, so I only ordered an appetizer chicken quesadillia. It was one of the cheapest things on the menu, but for $8 it was a BIG disappointment. Cut into four pieces, one piece was completely devoid of any chicken, save for a Vancouver cockroach (they are tiny) sized piece barely hanging onto the side. It was held up by one of the scant pieces of cheese that somehow found its way into the bread. Yummy, bread in sour cream and salsa.

Thankfully the other three pieces had a little bit more chicken, but I really do mean a "little bit more." Jen later said that I should have complained, but I just don't have the nerve. Maybe next time something like that happens.

At the end of the dinner I was left with the moral dilemma of the tip. I ended up leaving $12 (my drink was $2.50 and there was tax), which is hardly much of a tip, although I thought the service was good (slow - it was busy - but still pretty good). But, I couldn't justify spending more than $12 on bread, watered down lemonade, and barely enough chicken to feed a carnivorous hamster. Yup, I was a cheap bastard.
