Lunch was good. I'm finally a regular somewhere. Almost every weekday I go to a small sushi place on Pender Street, near where I work. I generally order salmon don with miso soup. It's quite good, and cheap enough that even though I haven't been paid in weeks and may not be for two more (although there is hope!) I can afford to eat out.
Anyway, when I showed up the girl at the counter said, "Salmon don?" I must have looked surprised that she knew what I'd order. My reply: "Yeah, with no-" "Seeds," she finished. I also ordered a dynamite roll, which was quite large and good for $3. Plus, she gave me an extra stamp on my card, so I'm a little bit closer to free food. I don't think I've ever filled up any sort of food card before, except maybe a Subway card before Subway started making me sick.
As for the food itself, it was as good as it usually is.
The miso soup at Sushi Cafe is good, although nowhere near the best I've had. The bean paste itself is of good quality, but the seaweed is often in rather large squares that don't quite seem that appealing. But since the soup itself is a throw-in with the meal, there isn't much to complain about.
I've tried both the salmon don and the tuna don, and I must say, the salmon is far better than the tuna. There's quite a bit of it, and it's in very generous portions to go with the bowl of rice. Just enough so that there's always just enough rice left for the last bit of salmon. It's always very filling and the staff never forgets to put four or five soya sauce packets, so that never runs out. In fact, I have about five in my desk at work.
As I mentioned earlier, the dynamite roll was great, as well. It came in five pieces, which seemed an odd amount for a roll, but since I was expecting four, I was impressed. Inside the dynamite roll is yam and prawn tempura, plus cucumber and some other goodies likes salmon roe. All very good stuff. Foodreview is always happy after eating at the Sushi Cafe.
It's location is 535 West Pender Street, in good old Vancouver B.C.
