Lots of fun stuff recently.
My check came in the mail today, so it's semi-official. I will be taking the 3級試験 in Seattle this December. Honestly I think anyone who has studied Japanese for only two years has a good chance of passing the test, so I'm considering taking the level 2 test instead. But the difference between level 3 and level 2 is tremendous. The level 3 test requires recognition of at least 300 Kanji while the level 2 test requires recognition of over 1,000. If I studied everyday consistently I think I could pass the level 2 test...but I think it's better to go with the safe-bet seeing as how I'll receive upper-division credit for each test I actually pass.
I'll probably just reserve the level 2 test for next year. That way I could plan it out a lot better and take it in Hawaii instead of Seattle. It would be a lot more fun to just make the whole thing into a vacation.
Also, my swimming ability has drastically improved since I started in August. Currently my freestyle record is 24 consecutive laps with no breaks. Not bad but not great either. It's a work in progress.
A couple of weeks ago Jared and I drew an awesome picture at the Bear Tooth. It involved our waitress, Jared, and myself floating around in space as the Earth below us was being obliterated by nuclear war. When we finished we gave the picture to the waitress on the condition that she would put it on her refrigerator and explain it to at least one other person. She accepted.
And of course, on October, 12th all us direct deposit bitches will receive our PFDs. Fuck yeah.
