Ordered: Tonkatsu with rice, miso soup, salad
For dinner I went to Midori’s in Sunnyvale, a place that generally has a great atmosphere, since the owner has an amazing personality. This time around, I didn’t get to see the owner. I ordered the Tonkatsu, which came with rice, miso soup, and a salad.
Miso soup is always good, since it’s really hard to mess up. This wasn’t anything special, but Miso soup is excellent in general. The salad was alright - as usual, there was more dressing on there than I would have liked.
The Tonkatsu was a bit of a disappointment. It was dry and stringy on the inside. The bonus though, was that they gave me two pieces. I suppose quantity can make up for quality sometimes, but not in this case. Just more of the not-so-good to eat, I guess. Their rice also seemed a bit dry, but rice at Japanese restaurants always seem that way to me.
If you’re going to go to Midori, definitely get the sushi. That’s where they excel. Their dinners, while pretty and coming with all sorts of little sides (pickles, etc.), leave much to be desired.
Atmosphere: 7/10
Service: 7/10
Taste of Food: 5/10 (This time around… I’m not factoring in past sushi experiences)
Overall: 6/10
