What better to come home to...

Than a chilled glass of Chardonnay? After a long trek from the east coast to the west coast, I decided that it was exactly what I needed. My victim (yes I like to think of it that way) this time was a 2005 Chilean Chardonnay that I had received as a gift. If I have the incentive when I get home I'll add more details about where it came from.

After spending so much time with white burgundies, it was quite interesting to go back to a New World style of the Chardonnay grape. Robust fruit flavors with a strong tannic finish. Not quite the level of butteriness of your typical California Chardonnay; the acidity was definitely prominent. Good drinking wine, though I'm not entirely sure what I could pair it with for food.

Last night, I tried a food and wine pairing that I had read about in a few books/articles which intrigued me. I got some good ol-fashioned fried chicken (from Popeyes) and paired it with some sparkling wine. Nothing expensive, as I just wanted to try this - but it was a great combo. I'd gotten a Brut sparkling wine from California; the subtle acidity helped to cut through the grease of the chicken and made for a great pairing. Highly recommended. :)
