[Background]
Wiki! [Personality]
Kyouko would be the first to tell you that she is a selfish person. Her motto is to live only for yourself, and helping other people is the furthest thing from her mind. Defeating witches is the job of a magical girl, and by doing so Kyouko would be able to prevent tragic events like murders and suicides. However, rather than defeat them before they actually have the power to do things like that, she waits for them to gain that power and thus allows others to get hurt. It's all to harvest the Grief Seed that only full-fledged witches drop to cleanse her own Soul Gem--essentially, it's to protect herself and no one but herself. By living for only herself, she understands that any problems she faces are her own fault. This way, she believes she doesn't need to feel any regrets over what she does or hold any grudges against someone. By living this way, Kyouko has been able to survive as a magical girl for a pretty long while. She's confident in her abilities,
However, her actions come from the belief that using magic to help others only causes despair. When she became a magical girl, she used her wish so that people would believe in her father's preaches. However, once he found out about what she had done, he despaired, called his own daughter a witch, and killed his family before committing suicide. Despite Kyouko's good intentions, her wish destroyed her own family, and from then on she believed that nothing good could come out of using magic for the sake of others. She has come to accept that that is how the world works however; there needs to be balance, and so for every hope there must also be despair.
Perhaps it's due to the fact that she grew up in a poor family, Kyouko hates wasting anything. Tossing away perfectly good food angers her incredibly, and she'll be quick to threaten to kill the person who did so if they even think of doing it again. She's even seen constantly eating something, from takoyaki in the middle of a fight to pocky while she's playing DDR. In that sense, her idea of a good life is a simple one--having a table full of food surrounded by a happy family. To waste that happy life by carelessly choosing to become a magical girl is simply something unforgivable to her.
Despite appearing as something akin to a hardened war veteran, Kyouko does have her kinder side. This is most notable when it comes to Sayaka, someone who she actually sees a lot of herself in. In her own roundabout way, Kyouko tries to look out for her by telling her to think only of herself, just like how she does. She comes to care deeply for her "junior" and even comes to her aid when fighting a witch. When Sayaka becomes a witch herself, she searches desperately for a way to save her while spending a good majority of her magic on keeping Sayaka's body from rotting, despite knowing that it wasted her magic. As she fights to save her, she even prays to God to allow her to see the happy dream of Sayaka return to normal, something a cynic like her would never do. When it becomes evident that Sayaka can't be saved though, Kyouko opts to kill both herself and Sayaka in a great explosion. She understands how painful it is to be alone, and even if it was only in death she refused to let Sayaka be alone.
[Abilities]
As a magical girl, Kyouko has a lot of standard abilities: enhanced strength, high speed, greater endurance, and a magical transformation sequence to get into the right clothes. Her Soul Gem can track things such as familiars and witches, and she can summon runes to construct barriers. If she really wanted to, she could make it so that she wouldn't feel a thing from attacks such as getting stabbed or flung around as her body has been made to be near indestructible through magic. Her Soul Gem is usually stored as a ring on her finger, and after transforming it becomes a jewel embedded in her chest. For a magical girl, the Soul Gem is their literal soul while their body is more or less an empty husk. As long as her Soul Gem is fine, her body can be beaten, torn, or damaged to any extent and can still be repaired with magic.
Kyouko's primary weapon is her spear, and really it's all she needs. She can control the length of the spear as well as split it into multiple sections that are connected by chains. Again, she can control the length of the sections and the chains. The actual spearhead's size can also be manipulated, and she can even change its shape to something resembling a halberd. At the end of the spear is a ball that she can use to hit and/or constrict others. She keeps a hairpin hidden in her ponytail that resembles her Soul Gem when embedded in her chest, and by combining it with her Soul Gem and focusing her power on it she can summon multiple giant spears. By destroying her Soul Gem, she can create a large explosion that will wipe out anything in the vicinity, including her. Her Soul Gem can also transform into various objects such as binoculars.
[Other important stuff] Nothing I can think of!
[Sample post]
[First Person]
- If you could go back home, would you? Why or why not?
Back home? Ha, I wonder... I can't say I'd want to go back if all that's left for me is being dead. I don't even have a grave I can go back to. Here at least, I'm alive, y'know? It's like a second chance or something.
- If someone provoked or attacked you, what would you do?
Heh, who'd be dumb enough to fight me? Sure I'd take 'em on, though I can't say I'll go easy on them, no matter who they are.
- If I offered to save your soul for a price, would you go with it and why?
Save my soul? You really think you can save it when it's nothing more than an egg-shaped rock? I've had my fill of shady deals like this, so I think I'd have to say no.
- Would you consider yourself a hero or a villain? Why? Neither is an option as well, but still tell why.
Defeating witches, saving people from danger--that'd usually make you a hero, huh. But I never cared about helping others. I mean, why should I, right? I'm only in it to look out for myself. But Sayka... she was a real hero. And maybe I'm a villain for not being able to save her when she needed it. Heh, it’s anybody’s guess as to what I’d be.
- You discover someone stalking you. Do you call the police or deal with it yourself?
Deal with it myself of course! I know how to take care of myself, not to mention some pathetic stalker.
- What is more important to you: having friends or living on your own? Why?
... heh, if you'd asked me earlier I'd have said living on my own in a heartbeat. Relying on others, making friends--who needs things like that, right? But, well... I gotta admit, it's pretty nice. Having friends, that is.
- You're dirt poor and your family is starving. You have a chance to steal bread. Do you: a) ignore it and get a job, b) steal it anyway because you know you won't get caught, c) get caught but break out of prison anyway, d) steal it and then hide from the creepy cop that keeps stalking you, e) don't steal because stealing is wrong :(. Explain why you chose that option.
B or C, whichever really ends up happening, though I doubt they'd be able to catch me. Even if the way you get it is questionable, having food on the table is one of the most important things in a person's life. Besides, what kind of person could just sit back and watch while their family starved? I'd do whatever it took to keep mine fed and happy.
[Third Person]
The screen in front of Kyouko flashed brightly-colored characters and arrows piling on top of each other, but her feet followed each move seamlessly and without hesitation. She could feel herself moving, stepping in time and landing perfects for each one, but her mind was somewhere far away. Maybe she had just done this for so long she could do it without thinking, but whatever the case her eyes barely followed the arrows as she thought to herself.
Sayaka. Was there really anything she could do for her? Without her Soul Gem her body was just waiting to rot, and Kyouko could only preserve it for so long. At this rate, the only way to save her would have been... to kill her.
Her teeth snapped down on the pocky in her mouth, feet now stomping on the arrow-pad rather than just stepping. There was no way that was the only choice, there had to be something she wasn't thinking of. She refused to let Sayaka die just like that, as a menace to humanity that she was supposed to kill. Kyuubey had said that no one had ever figured out a way to change witches back to magical girls, but that didn't necessarily mean that there was nothing, right? Who said that she couldn't be the one to figure it out. She'd been in this business longer than anyone else there, maybe all these years would help her think of something others couldn't.
By the time she had finished sorting out her thoughts, her box of pocky was completely empty and the DDR machine was on the fifth one from the song she started on. That was fine though; if she was being honest with herself, this was probably the last time she'd ever get to play this. She'd probably get a lot of food just for today, too.
No matter how much she was hoping for a happy ending, there was just something in her gut that told her otherwise.
[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?] I've wanted to play Kyouko for a little bit now, and after seeing a cast start to build up here I couldn't really resist.
[Which rule was your favorite and why?] Being nice to other players. It's always hard to feel comfortable in a game when others might make you feel unwelcome.
[Any questions?] Nope! The Sayaka app answered my questions regarding Soul Gems haha.
