Split Pea Soup

Brrrr.. It feels like it's going to be soup season through April again this year in the Pacific Northwest. At least it hasn't snowed. Anyhow onto the recipe. I ended up adding diced lunch meat (ham) to the soup as an afterthought, considering that I wasn't about to see which grocery store actually had smoked ham bones. The smoky aspect is certainly not in the soup, and while I could have added liquid smoke, it's not a loss to the overall flavor. This batch made a lot of soup. I'll be freezing at least two quarts of it for later. One can only eat so much of the same soup.

Lately I've noticed that my little point 'n' shoot camera (an Olympus 700) has been shooting really crappy, grainy, pixelated photos, especially when doing macro shots. It is probably obsolete by today's digital imaging standards. For those of you who are not professional photographers, what digital camera would you recommend for every day food photography (e.g., low light restaurant pics, at home creations, takes great macro shots, etc.)?

soup, peas
