Foodie Tour of Chicago (part 1)

May 17, 2011 10:48

Last week I went to Chicago for the first time, on a self-prescribed foodie tour. :D I was pretty careful about my restaurant selections, getting advice from a bunch of people/lists, then culling it down. I went with a non-foodie friend though, so I also wanted to let her call the shots sometimes.

I didn't have a chance to go to Alinea, supposedly the best restaurant in the country (try convincing a non-wealthy, non-foodie to pay $200/person prix fixe; it's not easy lol), but we did have some great food -- including, of course, Chicago-style deep dish pizza (3 times).

Potato croquettes: mashed potato mixed with bacon, cheese, and chives, then deep fried and covered with a yummy cheese sauce. At Keefer's Steakhouse.

If you're thinking of visiting Chicago, I have some great recs! I went to a lot of places and ate a lot of food and took a lot of pictures, so I'm going to have to split up the trip into a few blog posts. The first can be found here. :-)
