Cooking with Veselka
A few weeks ago I started a new blog here on livejournal called "Cooking with Veselka." Veselka, as some of you may know, is the landmark Ukrainian restaurant in New York City's East Village. I visited Veselka for the first time a few months ago, and immediately fell in love. The borscht! The pierogi! The latkes! I'm salivating as I think about it, even now. On my way out, I saw that the owner of the restaurant had written a cookbook, titled (simply enough) The Veselka Cookbook. After I purchased it, an idea formed in my head that I couldn't get rid of. I would do a blog about my experiences as I cooked my way through the book! I know this isn't a new concept (in fact, it probably would have never occurred to me if it weren't for the Julie/Julia Project), but I was sold on the idea. So far I've cooked 10 or so recipes from the book, including borscht, goulash, and pierogi. You can read all about it here at my journal.
