Apricot Danish

I made my very first Danish Pastries this weekend!  It's a more complex recipe that I would normally tackle, espcially now I'm working, but I'm really glad I did.  I feel like I'm getting better as a cook every time I push myself to do something like this and every time I'm surprised that it's easier than I thought!  This recipe is time consuming but worth it.  Although I was let down by instant custard.  I've never eaten custard really so am I mising something?  It just seemed really 'blah'.  What is the point of custard?
