Anybody have any suggestions?
My husband put his foot in it and volunteered me to make something yummy for his Arabic class on Tuesday (last class before October break). His professor is bringing Turkish coffee (I should demand some of that be brought home to me as payment, oughtn't I?), and the other 4 lazy-ass college students in his class are bringing pita and hummous and the like.
I don't really mind all that much - I have the time, the kitchen, and in theory, the skill.
Problem is, I'm much more well-versed in cookies, chiffon cakes, pies, custards, tartes, cheesecake, etc. I've never made an ethnic dessert in my life, unless tarte tatin or profiteroles counts. Savory food from other cuisines, yes. Often.
I thought perhaps haresa/harissa - a semolina cake with a citrus syrup. It seems fairly simple and will feed a crowd.
I'm open to suggestions!
