Do/would you travel for food? What are some of your favorite places (cities/towns/countries/regions, not restaurants) for food?

Of course, I have other motives for travel, but anytime I go somewhere new, I try to find the best places to eat, whether it's a swanky restaurant or a hole-in-the-wall BBQ place. I want to go to New York for pizza, Philly for phillies (obviously), Belgium for chocolate and waffles, and many coastal locales for seafood...

Would you consider Atlanta a go-to destination for food? Maybe I've just been here too long, but when a friend told me that Atlanta has the best array of restaurants of any city in the country, I actually laughed. I have my favorites here, but I feel like a lot of places are too focused on the atmosphere and not enough on food. And the places that do get it right? They usually don't last long. On top of that, people here seem to love the chains.

*edit for clarity*
Not to say I don't like the food in Atlanta. I do. My husband and I frequent places like Eats, Fat Matt's, La Fonda, The Vortex, with a thoroughly enjoyable night out somewhere fancier every month or so. We've had a lot of great meals here, but compared to other cities, it falls a bit short.

And on that note, how do you feel about your local fare?
