Cara Cara oranges

Cara Cara oranges have a flavor sort of in between a navel orange and a grapefruit. It's less sweet than the orange, but has none of that bitter finish of the grapefruit. It's really quite delicious. The color is this gorgeous orange with a pinkish reddish tone. I think I came close to capturing it here.

I love Cara Caras. Where I live, I simply cannot seem to find Blood Oranges anywhere --- so I just imagine that's what my Cara Caras are, and eat them happily. ;)

That's a lovely picture; you capture the orange's translucency nicely.

Your description of said orange has me wishing I lived someplace with more citrus selection. Yum! Perhaps I will have to have my florida relatives send me a care package.

I'm in DC, and I could get them. I read some message board about Costco stuff before my friend took me to this one, and it seems like some of the cool things, like cara cara oranges and blue, red, and white fingerling potatoes, can be found at all of their stores. It's worth a look.

We don't have Costco around us, sadly. Only Price Chopper and Hannaford.

I live in Richmond, Indiana where there is nothing cool. If you have a Meijer near you, check and see if it carries them... ours does.

I paid $8-9 for an 8 lb bag at Costco. I'd never been there before, but from what I can tell online, it seems like they have most of the same stuff from store to store. I was with a friend, and used her card, but I think you can get a guest card and pay like 5% extra, so it might be worth it.
