I can't find mirin anymore. o_O Not in the supermarket that used to carry it along with a wide selection of bottled Asian condiments, and not in the little Chinatown grocery store up the street from work.
Now that I think about it, I've only ever seen one brand of mirin. I feel silly -- I can't even remember what the brand was. But I've always been able to spot the bottle on the shelf. Now it's not there, and I can't find any other brand of mirin. The only other names I know for it are sweet rice wine and sweet sake, but I can't find those either.
So if that brand has been pulled for one reason or another, what should I be looking for? Are there other names for the stuff in other languages? I see cooking wine, cooking vinegar, etc. but I'm not sure if any of these are sweet.
