Writer's Block: You’re giving me a toothache

Aug 23, 2011 23:52

In my highschool, for senior, they got parents to write letters to their daughters. My parents got the memo too late, so some of my teachers wrote some instead.

There in just a short little half scrawled note from my Year 12 co-ordinator that I got randomly close with, who knew a fair amount of my family background was:

"If you were my daughter, I'd be so proud of you."

I can't remember crying harder over anything in my life.

I still read it whenever I feel sad. If you don't have a parent that ditched you for supposedly greener pastures, it's hard to imagine how much their unspoken disapproval hangs over your head that you were never good enough for them. Having those few words managed to help so much heart break since I was a little girl.

I think I am going to get that letter framed, it means that much to me.
