This is a odd little story... but it feels me with warmth so I though to share it.
So on my FB I like everyone else join groups and stuff and I joined one I can't remember. Anyway this kid added me, and I didn't think too much about it, added him back. He got online and he asked me about my photo which at the time I was me wielding a Katana in a costume (you know, the usual for me...). He said that he really liked my pictures a lot. I was a bit creeped out first, but then as he got into he just wanted to know about cons and costuming and things like that. He asked me how I did it, was it very hard, etc, etc. He then timidly asked if I thought he could, I replied with why not? With my usual enthusiasm for costuming and that everyone should do it sometime, I fully encouraged him. He asked about ideas then, saying that it seemed unlikely that he could because his parents was Jehovah's witness and was super conservative. I said well, why not something generic then, like a Knight, or maybe a cool Monk, perhaps a soldier or a pirate...? Certainly those aren't too offensive. He seemed really pleased with the idea, and thanked me and signed off.
Anyway this was in like December last year. I scarcely remembered him. Anyway he got back online just now and started talking and I went oh yeah how was it going, any good at convincing his Mum to go to a con, or help him make a outfit? He replied that he had and that he wanted to thank me for giving him some courage to do it, that his Mum let him go and he had so much fun.
I am happy, far away boy from California, that you got to go to Con, glad that I could help in anyway. Am now going to make sure that my profile pic is always in costume, in case I can help someone else. ♥
