Overworked

It seems I returned to the island just in time. Thanks to a mistake in another department, I've been saddled with an unscheduled and time-consuming project that needs careful personal attention in the lab. My subordinates and I were already working overtime Friday night when the equipment picked up a very nasty harmonic. At that point there was no sense in going home, as our quarters would have been within the blast radius of the hyperresonance in any case. In the end, we worked a thirty-hour weekend. I must commend my staff for their hard work, said commendation to of course include hefty overtime pay and a hazard bonus.

((locked and unhackable))

And if Security doesn't like paying for all that, perhaps they should learn that, no matter how annoying a teenager might be, there are better ways to control him than by exploding his brain. This policy of terminating subjects the moment I can no longer think of anything to do with them is, aside from the more obvious ethical flaws, penny-wise and pound-foolish.

Luckily, since isofonic replication doesn't truly restore the original person, the result will be, in scientific terms, an entirely new subject. There should be sufficient avenues of research to save the replica from gratuitous detonation for a time. In particular, I hypothesized that many of the original Francisco's problems were due to his abilities being too strong. If the replica is weaker by comparison, as is typical, we may get some very interesting results.
