{south dakota} Someone to watch...

Jun 16, 2010 14:04

"Cordelia?" she called out, alone in the motel parking lot. She felt silly. She was standing alone yelling into the sky. But, the minute Dean had mentioned her name, Buffy knew that somehow, their lives - or her afterlife and her life were now intertwining. "Cordelia!"

Cordelia had been in the middle of debating something with Sam -- she was winning, just for the record -- when she heard that familiar voice and tug in the back of her mind. It wasn't one she should be feeling.

"Buffy?"

Buffy wasn't a charge in any sense of the word, but she did want to look over the people from her previous life. It still didn't explain how Buffy knew how to call for her, though, which meant that something was up. Sam was giving her a quizzical look, and she glanced to him, before holding up a finger in front of her.

"Hold that thought."

A few minutes later, she was landing as a swirl of glowy orbing lights in front of the Slayer, and giving her a very confused look. "Not to sound unhappy to see you or anything, but how did you get this number?"

Buffy had never seen the orbing for herself. She had heard about it. Briefly, from Andrew. But his version of what happened was, for lack of a better term, a little gay - also hyper. So, when he described it as an acid trip through Liza Minelli's something or other -- before adding in something about Star Trek and Megan Fox -- she checked out of the conversation. Here, in front of her, white orbs and light?

It was kind of impressive.

"We have an entire set-up in Cleveland, you think what, we don't know what whitelighters are?" she asked, crossing her arms. But, she had to reel in the bitch. "And nice to see you, too Cordelia." Walking towards her, Buffy continued. "We have a mutual - well, I don't think we can call him an acquaintance --"

Cordelia crossed her arms right back. Whatever this was, it wasn't giving her a good feeling. They had a number of mutual acquaintances, but this made it seem like it was someone she didn't know about, and that made her nervous.

"The point, Buffy? I can't leave my charge alone for long."

Nor that Sam would appreciate hearing that, because she was sure he thought he could handle himself, but she wasn't worried about his physical well-being -- just his mental one. Though she would be cloaking him from demonic presences from where she was standing, just for good measure.

"Sam Winchester?"

It was as straight a point as she could admit to. It seemed weird explaining to Cordelia that Dean had crawled out of his own grave and wandered into a diner her and Xander had been in. Or, perhaps Dean or Bobby were the acquaintance. Either way, anything past Sam Winchester wasn't an issue at this juncture.

And that ... wasn't good. She was racking her brain, trying to figure out what Buffy would want with Sam, but of the options she could come up with, none of them were nice ones.

"What do you want with Sam? Is the Watcher's Council after him for something?"

Buffy liked to think that with Giles at the helm, the Watcher's council was a whole lot less Quentin. They weren't threatening. They were like the Watchers Gone Wild edition - with less flashing. But, Quentin's reign was straightlaces and stiff upper lips.

"It's not me, Cordelia. Or the Council. It's Dean."

"What?"

Did she hear her right? She wasn't sure she did. Because she could have sworn she said 'Dean' and Dean was not what she was expecting to come out of Buffy's mouth right then. Dean was dead. Had been for four months. That was why she had landed this gig in the first place.

"Wait, what?"

"Dean. His brother. Dean. Crawled out of his grave and wandered into a diner Xander and I had stopped at Dean. He's alive, Cordelia," Buffy said, looking back at his motel room door. "Dean's alive."

Cordelia stared at her for a long minute, before moving past her to the doorway of the motel room. She didn't need it really -- in fact she pretty much orbed right through it and was confronted with Dean Winchester, in the flesh -- quite literally as he was only in a towel.

" ... The fuck?!"

"Oh my God. Literally." Her eyes moved over to the shoulder, seeing the hand print seared into his shoulder, she knew exactly what it was that had done this. "Get dressed."

"First things first -- who the hell are you?"

"I'm Cordelia. Now -- if you don't mind, that's more of you than I really want to see."

" ... Oh."

She then turned to walk towards the door, opening it once Dean at least had his pants on. "Buffy? I need a favor."

"Coredlia!" Buffy moved to the doorway almost immediately. Hand on the knob, she listened to the exchange. She really did know how to make an entrance and from what Cordelia said about needing to see less of something, Dean had finished his shower. Stepping back, the door opened.

"I don't think 'no' is a viable option, not that I need to say no." She was really feeling snippy tonight. "What do you need?" She peeked inside at a shirtless Dean. With pants. Thankfully.

"I'd still owe you one," Cordelia pointed out, before closing her eyes and focusing. There were more glowy orbing lights, but this time they were behind her, near where Dean was standing, and eventually revealing a very confused Sam Winchester.

"Just watch them. I have an angel to yell at."

And the next second later, she was gone.

"Wait!" Buffy moved into the space Cordelia had just occupied. Sam stood there, confused, looking at Buffy, then around his surroundings. Buffy knew she was in for a kodak moment. So, she stepped aside, out of the doorway.

Dean was just as confused as Sam was. He didn't even realize who he was looking at until the lights cleared from the other end of the room. And when he saw who it was he was looking at, he just -- stared.

"Sammy?"

Buffy smiled.

"...Dean?" To Buffy, Sam looked like he was frozen in place. His face was a mixture of shock and confusion. But, still, he didn't move in the direction of his brother. She half expected Sam to lunge, to attack as Bobby had done.

Dean was half-ready for that himself. He finished pulling his shirt over his head, before holding up his hands to him. "It's me, dude. One hundred percent -- I promise."

"How..." He looked to Buffy. She made sure to nod, confirming. It wasn't her time to introduce herself. She knew Cordelia. That was probably apparent. Slowly, Sam moved towards the doorway but once he made it inside the room, he wrapped his arms around his brother.
