AUTHOR: Ashley-Pitt
CHARACTERS: Horatio Hornblower, William Bush

AUTHOR’S NOTE: A little bit of William gleaned from between the lines of Lieutenant Hornblower . I love this novel and William called to me this Christmas season.
DISCLAIMER: I do not own these characters, nor am I making any money from them. I borrow them once in awhile but put them awhile tidily.

Lt. William Bush pulled his coat closer about him as he made his way down the street. Odd… he had been in much colder temperatures aboard a ship and not felt this cold.
He could remember when he and Hornblower had stood watch and their very breath had frozen on their lips. They had to discretely stamp their feet so as to not let the men think their toes were freezing.

Hornblower… Bush shook his head as he remembered his friend and his many kindnesses.
One dismally cold night he had to serve watch and watch for some unremembered infraction. When he went below to briefly warm himself, he had found a mug of warmed grog waiting for him.
And many a times he had found his boat cloak warmed and ready for him when he went on deck.
And the gift of the fruit and pineapple…

Hornblower was a good friend. Bush’s great heart warmed with the very thought of him.

Hornblower was now a Commander, but Bush felt no animosity toward his friend over this commission. It was well deserved.
Someone came out from a side street just in front of him and turned into the wind ahead of him--a naval officer. That gangling walk; those shoulders bent into the wind; he could not help but recognize Hornblower.

“Sir! Sir!”
