Very Educational

Not to be outdone by Hornblower's foray into Higher Education Mr Bush is now getting in on the act! Earlier this week The Liverpool Echo reported that Paul McGann will be involved in a new project launched by Liverpool John Moores University to record the stories of people from Merseyside who fought during the First World War. In a lovely thoughtful interview for the Echo, which you can watch here, PMG explained that his role in The Monocled Mutineer sparked a life long fascinating with WW1 and turned him into "one of those geeks who goes striding across the battlefields in an anorak".

Actually talking of Ioan Gruffudd's promotional video for the University of South Wales, Cause and Effect, the film caused a bit of a stink a couple of day after I posted it here, when eagle eyed viewers noticed that the hills that IG is striding over are actually the Mendips....in Somerset. The Bristol based advertising agency who produced the film admitted that they shot in the Mendips rather than the Brecon Beacons because it was raining in Wales :} Honestly, don't these people realise the picturesque effect of rain on Welsh actors?! USW, the advertising agency and IG himself all came in for considerable flak following the news and even Plaid Cymru weighed in on the issue. Poor Ioan, it hardly seems fair to blame him. Anyway, I am sure he was far too busy enjoying the birth of his new daughter to pay any attention :)

Meanwhile there is still no sign of St John's College employing Jamie Bamber for promotional duties. Anyone would think Cambridge didn't need to recruit students! ;) JB hasn't been sitting around twiddling his thumbs though, he's at Dallas Comic Con this weekend and has just finished filming a new fire fighting drama, The Smoke for SkyTV. The first trailer is available here. The Smoke wont be broadcast until next year but for any one who enjoys radio drama, JB has also recorded a George Bernard Shaw play, You Never Can Tell, for BBC Radio 3 which was broadcast this week. I've only listened to the first half so far, but it's very, very funny, in an outrageously English kind of way. You can listen to the play online for one more day here, but I also have a copy if anyone would like me to pass it on.
