I didn't have time to write anything new, so cheated and searched my files for the word 'pirate'. Found this odd little thing, which I have no recollection of writing. Must have been inspired by a challenge as it's based on Monet's Impression, soleil levant.

But it couldn't be someone else's work ! your Archie and Horatio are as they are both in sad fics and funny ones and loved for it

but as has been commented elsewhere on this = this is particularly lyrical but with that poetic sense of irony that Archie has and the strength and serenity which characterises his happier days and especially his dying detemination to bring good to bear out of a mess.

there is something of the sun, the bright Apollo in Archies move through this shimmer - you were in a good and lyical phase just then :) thank you for posting this. and it has made today much fuller

Made me ponder a lot this morning as I stopped to read it the process of writing a chapter on Will Kempthorne - as a young lieutenant in a bad posting ,court martialled and dismissed the service and disgraced and the six long years of Neds search for justice and restoration for him . Just on the irony that while anteros_lmc and I can now change the minds of naval historians about the historical Ned there is no similar way to have ITV Ned rehabilitated entirely - and irrational though that is sometimes it still makes the storyteller in me sad :} Though put antonher way it means that Archie has in a sense gifted historical Ned with the right to be known as the " matchless friend" whom Will remembered with so much love and gratitude. Hmmm shall ponder maybe in a post sometime ...

A lot to ponder there indeed. Rescuing Ned from the image created of him is a worthwhile quest be it TV version or 'received historical'.

Archie is a thing of light and warmth, in his pomp or in his despair. Like a piece of stained glass, the sun or moon shining through him.
