Inspired by this and this, those (*#$&(#&$(#* plot bunnies wouldn't leave me alone until I wrote this down. Because I'm greedy and love an excuse to write cuddly stuff, I couldn't choose just one idea, so I combined them all.

OH. This is the way it should have been. I want to go back and have this be the real way now.

Trousers of time though, right? This is just another leg!

Exactly. We already have the Kennedy Lives Universe. I guess this is the Kennedy Got Rescued Universe.

I mean, we don't know how long Archie was floating before he was picked up. With changing wind and waves, there was a chance the Indy would have come across him again, right?

I was just looking at Katriona's picture going "Hmm, how can I combine all these...angst, wound, cold...*lightbulb* The Duel!!" And as I'm a sucker for Horatio getting much needed hugs, what he really needed was a happy ending.

Ohhhh! I just want to cuddle him so badly now! Poor Horatio: physically and psychologically exhausted, sick and injured, and having to deal with PEOPLE and EMOTIONS, too! Good thing Archie understands. I definitely like this AU. :-)

(I swear, you do this to me: I need a woobie!Horatio icon now! But as I'm only on my phone right now, I'll have to use this one, instead.)

You aren't alone in the "wanting to cuddle" category: Horatio in his right frame of mind would be opposed to the idea, but I'd just say, "Tough luck. *hug*" I'd probably get away with it too.

My headcanon is that Horatio just pushes down all his depressed feelings until something, possibly years later, sets him off, and he just locks himself in his cabin and cries until it's all out of his system. Then he gets up and pretends that's nothing's wrong, and repeat. The situation in this fic would definitely qualify as "setting him off".

If you're looking for a picture for said icon, might I suggest: http://pics.livejournal.com/ioanite/pic/0004yth5/

One of my favorites in regards to setting off the cuddle reflex.

HEE! I'm actually going to sleep right now, as I have to be up early tomorrow (er, today...), so I'll comment on the rest of this later, but for now: that picture, or one very much much like it, was and is the pic I plan to use for my icon. It's just too perfect. *grins somewhat evilly*

Goodnight!

We seem to share tastes when it comes to Ioan and the Cuddle Reflex. I approve.

Oh, lovely fluff. The Kennedy Got Rescued Universe should be expanded. They could study together for the Examination to Lieutenant and be romantically quarantined on the plague ship. I like how it's Horatio who's going to pieces here, whilst Archie remains in control.

Biggest question: would the Renown tragedy still have happened in this universe? Because Archie probably would have been promoted to Lieutenant around the same time Horatio was, and might have been sent to another ship.

"romantically quarantined on the plague ship."

Good lord, I'm suddenly getting this weird image of Horatio and Archie singing love songs while on the Plague ship ("A Whole New World?" Seriously??) What is my brain, seriously.

"I like how it's Horatio who's going to pieces here, whilst Archie remains in control."

My thought was that Archie always seemed to be pretty happy as long as Simpson (or Prison) wasn't part of the equation--witness how he was on the Indy pre-Simpson's reappearance. Upon discovering that Simpson was dead, and he had nothing left to fear, I think he would just relax internally and be able to face the world.

Meanwhile, it always sort of bugged me that at the end of The Duel, the final scene has Horatio moving as though his arm is fine. You were shot in the shoulder. Wounds do not heal that ( ... )

That's exactly how it should have been!

Oh, man, can you imagine if it had been filmed that way? The fangirls would have been insane with joy.

(And I would quietly be sitting there reaching my hands out at the screen going "Awwwww, come here and let me hug you!!")

Well, thank you for drawing such nice pictures. I quite like the way this one turned out, so it's a win-win all around.
