I think it's fair to say that there are an awful lot of Paul McGann fans on Tumblr who thoroughly appreciate him in naval uniform. *cough* And then people (I couldn't possibly comment on my own involvement here) have been posting a lot of excerpts from the books that generally feature Bush and Hornblower being adorable about each other, and the logical conclusion of these two things seems to be shipping Bush/Hornblower.
I keep trying to send them over here! Keep up the good work ma'am!
I'm trying to keep my social networks from proliferating so I don't have a tumblr of my own. I pull a lot of the rss feeds into my LJ flist though. I was particularly delighted last night to see that fuckyeahjamiebamber.tumblr.com has reactivated :)
Oh yes, that's a delightful one. I suppose with his appearances on Body of Proof it makes sense. Good heavens, that SMILE of his. The squee in this house was EPIC.
We watched it as broadcast, so as not to have to wait for the highlights, but were not overwhelmed by the rest of the show - it's not one of our regulars. Lucky you, you missed a DREADFUL cover of "Mad World."
Smile, accent, bright blue eyes -- the usual delights!
I'm we-blaze-away, and now I'm trying to remember if we've actually interacted, or whether I just admire your historical research posts from afar. Possibly both?
Possibly both! And I'm giggling at your calling my posts "historical research" - I tend to think of them as "poking the internet because I get so easily distracted from my writing by minutiae." You would think that I'd be able to write a sex scene without knowing EXACTLY what the plumbing was like in a Georgian house wealthy enough to have piped-in water. I could find out that such houses existed; I could learn that the water was only piped to the lower floors, because it was hard to achieve the water pressure needed to extend it to the upper floors; I could not for the LIFE of me find out what a Georgian basement faucet might look like. And, if one happens to be in an empty house that's been left shut up for the season because it's not worth opening it for only a week? One has splendid privacy, but NO SERVANTS TO BRING WATER
( ... )
Oh, I feel your pain about needing to know these things. I remember Google Streetview-ing half of London for the sake of half a dozen words about the view from a window once. Trouble is, I find the research more fun than the actual writing, which is why I now know an awful lot about the inter-war Metropolitan Police, and yet no word of my detective AU will ever see the light of the internet. /sensitive fangirl problems
I, for one, would love to see your detective AU. My L&O:UK fic is in some aspects a Hornblower modern AU - given who I cast as the boyfriend I invented for Matt.
And I, too, have spent quality time with Google Maps, and Google Street View, and real estate listings, and websites for restaurants that deliver, just in order to get TWO SENTENCES. We are siblings!
