Hallowe'en Challenge: A Hornblower Amphigorey

Oct 27, 2011 22:56

For reasons best known to herself, eglantine_br has taken to writing Hornblower / Edward Gorey cross over fic featuring a young William Bush, Basil Hall and a very forward young lady named Amy. This led vespican to suggest that perhaps we should do a Hornblower Amphigorey which struck me as a fine challenge for Hallowe'en!

For those who haven't come across Edward Read more... )

C is for Clayton, shot in Horry's stead,
And for Charlie Hammond whose nephew dropped dead.

H is for Hunter, who nobly did die,
J for Jack Simpson, who's ghastly and vile.

M's for Mariette who was shot in the back.
And for Moncountant, head severed from neck.

I've just spent two hours driving, the mind wanders and comes up with silliness. First, the Archie* hattrick:

A is for Archie, who's lost to the sea,
B is for Bush, who had only one knee.

A is for Archie, who's gone off his food,
B is for Bunting who thought food is good.

A is for Archie, stripped down to his hip,
B for Bracegirdle, who died losing his ship.

M's for Maria, her infant did this,
And for Marietta, whom no-one will miss.

W's William, killed on foreign strand,
And for young Wellard, who died pistols in hand.

*Archie actually "died" three times; when I first watched it with friends, we agreed that we didn't fall for his "death" for a third time.

Huzzah! An Archie hat trick no less! Extra ration of rum!

And for Marietta, whom no-one will miss.
Ouch! Cruel ;)

I realised afterwards that I have used Mariette twice and managed to spell her name with an -e and an -a respectively. This is how much I care :-P

Some truly appalling rhyming going on there sweetie! Thank heaven's you weren't around when we had that outbreak of contagious limericks earlier in the year...

I've never claimed to be a great poet, you know...

Let's hope there won't be any more challenges that bring out the worst in me, i.e. silliness combined with appalling rhymes.
