Wow...it's amazing. And I cannot help imagining how were the works in the old days with no cranes nor trucks...

They did have cranes, they had sheer hulks! The sheers effectively acted as cranes. The picture below is of the Clyde, Captain Cunningham, arriving at Sheerness following her escape from the Nore mutiny but you can see a sheer hulk to the right
